PS5 on an LG OLED: Best Picture and Game Settings

These recommendations use LG’s published PS5 troubleshooting advice and CNET’s general LG TV picture guidance. RTINGS’ linked calibration page is specifically for the LG C5 OLED, so do not copy model-specific values to a different LG OLED. Menu names and locations can also vary by TV year, firmware and webOS version.
⚙ Starting picture settings
| Setting | Value |
| Picture Mode | Filmmaker Mode if available; otherwise Cinema |
| OLED Pixel Brightness | 80 or higher |
| TruMotion | Off |
⚙ Optional workaround for stuttering in 30fps games
| Setting | Value |
| PS5 → Settings → Screen & Video → Video Output → ALLM | Off |
| TV → All Settings → Picture → Advanced Settings → Clarity → TruMotion | Choose Cinematic Motion, Natural Motion or Smooth Motion |
| TV video mode | Do not use Game Mode while using TruMotion |
Why these settings
CNET recommends Filmmaker Mode or Cinema because these modes reduce unnecessary picture processing and generally provide a more accurate image.
CNET says an LG OLED’s light output is controlled through OLED Pixel Brightness and recommends setting it to 80 or higher.
CNET recommends turning off TruMotion for normal viewing. This avoids motion smoothing when it is not specifically needed.
LG says some games limited to less than 60Hz, including certain 30fps titles, can show stuttering or afterimage. Its workaround is to turn PS5 ALLM off and then enable a preferred TruMotion mode.
LG notes that TruMotion is unavailable when the TV is in Game Mode. This makes the 30fps fix a smoothness-first option rather than a low-latency gaming setup.
60-second checklist
Do this
- Use the standard picture settings first. Only try the ALLM and TruMotion workaround when a particular 30fps game has distracting stutter.
- Press the gear button on the LG remote to open the quick settings menu. Some controls may require All Settings.
- Give an accurate picture mode a few days before making more changes. It can initially look less vivid than heavily processed presets.
- Use the RTINGS calibration page only if you own the matching LG C5 OLED model.
Avoid
- Do not raise the regular Brightness control expecting more panel light output. CNET warns that it mainly changes dark parts of the image and can wash out the picture.
- Do not leave motion smoothing enabled for every game just because it helps one 30fps title.
- Do not copy LG C5 calibration values to another OLED model. Panel behavior and available controls can differ.
- Do not assume every menu path will match exactly. LG changes menu locations between webOS versions and firmware releases.
